BMD Receives the 2013 Board Leadership Award

Bowen McCauley Dance

On July 24, 2013, The Center for Nonprofit Advancement annouced Bowen McCauley Dance as the 2013 Board Leadership Award recipient.

Bowen McCauley Dance will receive a $10,000 grant; communication exposure through print, radio, television and social media; and training and development opportunities for the board and CEO from BoardSource and through the Center’s Learning & Leadership Institute.

The Award Selection Committee noted the board’s commitment to mission in management decisions, board training and financial management practices in their award selection in the under $2 million budget category.  Artistic Director and Choreographer, Lucy Bowen McCauley accepted the award and acknowledged, “We are proud of the board, but also honor the individuals who have served on the board over the past 18 years who helped us reach this level of professionalism.”

Bowen McCauley Dance Chairman of the Board, Edwin Fountain says, “The award is a testament to the organizational strengths of our Executive Director, Ricki Marion, and to Lucy Bowen McCauley’s ability to inspire a talented and experienced group of board members who are dedicated to helping BMD further its mission.  We are grateful to the Center, and just as we have learned much from other non-profits’ best practices, we hope we can share our ideas with other organizations.”

This competitive award presented by CohnReznick LLP recognizes the role that boards play in building and sustaining successful organizations by executing their fiduciary and leadership responsibilities—assuring that they are well led, well supported and responsive to the people and communities they serve.

“Vital work in support of our communities is made possible by excellence in board leadership,” said Center CEO Glen O’Gilvie. “We are inspired by the best practices exhibited by each of our 2013 nominees and proud to acknowledge Bowen McCauley Dance as a 2013 Award Winner Recipient.”
