A Successful First BMD Summer Dance Intensive

In August, Bowen McCauley Dance offered their inaugural Summer Dance Intensive, and it turned out to be a success!

Participants made up of professional and pre-professional dancers ages 16 and older, studied and practiced with Lucy Bowen McCauley as well as BMD Company members Dustin Kimball, Liz Clain-Stefanelli, Alicia Curtis, Joan Ayap, Mimmo Miccolis, and Alexandra Keen. Together, they combined knowledge and skill to offer a unique experience unlike any other.

“My favorite part of the week was the variety of instructors and styles. I love trying something i’ve never done before,” says Betsy Park, a dancer from the intensive.

Participants experienced an intense and professional week-long program that offered individualized instruction, opportunities to learn Company repertoire, and perform in a final showcase for friends and family.

“I thoroughly enjoyed teaching repertory each day of our very first BMD Summer Intensive. It was impressive and inspiring to see the dancers’ talent, energy, and enthusiasm while learning the material,” says Company member and Rehearsal Director Alicia Curtis. “Watching how well they performed Lucy’s choreography on the final day was the greatest reward of all, and I’m looking forward to future summer intensives for BMD!”

The dancers were guided in their technical ballet training as well as other forms of dance including contemporary, jazz, and Latin freestyle. Along with technique classes, participants also experienced  conditioning classes, Bowen McCauley stretch classes, Bowen McCauley Dance repertoire classes, artist talks, and professional development dinner seminars with leading dance experts.

“I was interested in [signing up for the BMD Summer Dance Intensive to] learn more about the artistic process of BMD,” says Melissa Lineburg, a participant in the intensive. “The extra dancing doesn’t hurt either.”
