Dance for PD Grows

Congratulations to our Dance for PD students who performed in our Holiday Concert at The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on December 11.

BMD is now offering weekly Dance for PD classes in three new locations. Come dance with us at any of our five locations and learn to move gracefully in a safe and creative environment.

Originating with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Dance for PD is a dance class designed for people with Parkinson Disease.  As the only leading professional dance company in the Metro DC area to offer free, weekly Dance for PD classes, the program is important to BMD and has become an integral part of our program offerings. Since 2008, when Lucy Bowen McCauley first began teaching Dance for PD classes, the program has simply exploded. We are excited to offer free Dance for PD classes in five different locations!

Additionally, we offer senior classes at the Madison Community Center and for the residents at Sunrise Assisted Living in Alexandria.

Dance for PD classes are made possible in partnership with the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA) and Arlington County. Drop-ins and care partners are welcome. Learn more about Dance for PD and find a location near you.

“So you think you can’t dance? That was pretty common in the local PD community just a few short years ago.  Now, less than five years later we have Dance for PD classes in so many locations of the National Capital Area and up toward Baltimore.  We are pleased with the growth, happy about the large number of participants and just as thankful for the wonderful work of BMDC.  The work they are doing makes life just a bit better for those who deal with a difficult disease like Parkinson’s.  …so we know you can dance.” –Lou Nistler, Executive Director, PFNCA
