Join us for An Evening of Dance on Film at the Artisphere on Thursday, February 9 at 6pm. Bob Mondello, who reviews movies and covers arts for NPR, will serve as our emcee for the evening as we present six short dance films. The evening features a live performance by BMD with NSO cellist Yvonne Caruthers in the Dome Theater.

Representatives from the production companies, as well as Lucy Bowen McCauley and the BMD dancers will be in attendance to discuss the projects and the process.

Films by: Last Name Left Productions, Bloom & Fade, Ear of the Eye Productions, and Thom Wolf Webvideos.

BMD is the only professional company in the region that offers free weekly dance classes for people with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers, sponsored by the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area. We believe that dance is for everyone, regardless of age or ability, and frequently offer Dance for PD classes when on tour. Join us for the dance class on Friday, and make sure to see our concert on Saturday.

Bowen McCauley Dance selected as Leadership Arlington’s Nonprofit of the Year

Leadership Arlington recently announced that The JBG Companies, Bowen McCauley Dance, and Arlington County Fire Chief Jim Schwartz will be honored as its 2012 Leadership Legacy Award recipients.

Each year, Leadership Arlington accepts nominations and selects one deserving individual or organization in the business, nonprofit, and public sectors to receive this prestigious honor. The award recipients will be celebrated at the Leadership Legacy Awards Dinner in May 2012.

The nonprofit sector award is generously sponsored by The Shooshan Company. Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority has graciously supported the business sector award for a number of years.

“Leadership Arlington thrives on the diversity of perspectives and individuals as a result of business, nonprofit, and public balance in our membership,” says Robin Norman, Chair of Leadership Arlington’s Board of Regents. “So, it is only fitting that we honor community leaders from each sector with the Leadership Legacy Awards.”

This year’s recipients were selected based on strict criteria. Each of the honorees have:

• Exemplified leadership in our community,
• Embodied Leadership Arlington’s mission statement, which is “to enlighten, inspire and connect leaders to
strengthen our community,”
• Established capacities of leadership,
• Shown visionary thinking,
• A proven record of servant leadership, and
• Demonstrated ethics in thought, words and action.

“The committee brought a number of outstanding nominees to the table this year,” says Betsy Frantz, President and CEO of Leadership Arlington. “Our region is truly lucky to have so many exemplary candidates for this award.”

The Leadership Legacy Awards Dinner is an annual event attended by over 250 key decision makers in the community. The program honors the Leadership Legacy Award recipients and also Leadership Arlington’s Signature Program Class of 2012. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

DEC 8 + 9 Kenmore Junior Company Performance

The Kenmore Junior Company will take the stage at Kenmore on Thursday, December 8 and Friday, December 9 at 7pm for a performance of The Nutcracker. Tickets are complimentary, but donations are welcome.

With music by Tchaikovsky, this holiday classic is sure to leave you in a festive mood. BMD Company members Michelle de Fremery and Alvaro Palao have set original choreography to The Waltz of the Flowers section for the student performers.
