Mackenzie Rawls, originally from Rockville, Maryland began her training at Berrend Dance Center (previously Jane Bittner’s) and American Dance Institute (ADI). Mackenzie was awarded a merit scholarship from the Boston Conservatory, which translated to her graduating magna cum laude in 2014 receiving her B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance. At the Boston Conservatory, Mackenzie had the opportunity to perform works by Thang Dao, Doug Varone, Bill T. Jones, Danny Buraczeski, Karole Armitage, and Francesca Harper. She has learned repertory by Jose Limon, Trey McIntyre, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Alessio Silverstrin, Hernan Justo, and many others. Rawls was named a WISE Foundation Emerging Artist for 2013. She has guested with Carolina Ballet Theater (CBT), Allentown’s Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT) and on other projects in the DC area. In 2015-16, Mackenzie danced with Dissonance Dance Theatre as a company member during which time she was named one of the Top 5 Artists to Watch in Washington DC (2016). In addition to performing, Mackenzie taught at Elizabeth Seton High School where she played a vital role in the development of the Performing Arts Department. This is her first season with BMD.
