Alvaro Palau

Alvaro PalauAlvaro Palau, a native of Cali, Colombia, was a principal dancer for ten years with The Washington Ballet and The National Ballet of Venezuela before joining BMD. He has performed at the Havana Festival (Cuba), Umbrella Festival Johannesburg (South Africa), International Festival Miami (Fla.), Aids Foundation Austin (Tex.), and The White House Memorial Day Show (Washington). Recently, he has enjoyed participating in movie shoots with Jennifer Schwed, working with Gala Theater El Bola-Cuba’s King of Song and the Innocent Erendira and Her Heartless Grandmother as well as a performance with Quin Tango. Mr. Palau is the recipient of First Prize at the Arts Competition Colombia and Best Classical Dancer at Casa del Artista de Venezuela. His repertoire includes Romeo, Romeo and Juliet; Franz, Coppelia; Colin, La Fille Mal Gardee; and Don Jose and Escamillo, Carmen. He has danced to works choreographed by Balanchine, Forsythe, Duato, Tharp and many others. Mr. Palau received a BFA at the Colombia Ballet Institute and has studied in Cuba, New York with David Howard, and at the Summer Program at the Houston School of Ballet.
